One of the really fun things we got to do when we were visiting Michael's folks during Memorial Day Weekend was go to the Western Antique Aeroplane Automotive Museum. Kay, if you're reading this, "Thanks!" It was the first time any of us had been and we had a great time despite the kids being really tired from playing at Aunt Stacie's the previous day. It was an excellent museum and pretty kid friendly. Fairly expensive, but worth it because it is huge and has really cool stuff. Here's their website if you're in the Hood River, OR area and are into this kind of thing http://www.waaamuseum.org/.
Someone had put a lot of time and expense into making an airplane that the kids could play in. It had all the controls, headsets and everything. The kids had a ball climbing all over it.
They also had an old army Jeep that the kids could play on. The windshield wipers worked by hand.
Josiah spent most of his time with this .50 caliber machine gun that was on a swivel base. He's such a warrior in the making. He'll turn a peanut butter and jelly sandwich into a gun.

BTW, we also got went to Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood with the kids. I didn't get any pictures but we had fun. I hadn't been there since I was a teenager. We want to do all the stops along the Barlow Rd someday, too. There is some great Oregon pioneer history along that route.
Jackie, David took a trip with his T.A.G. group to WAAM and we have been planning to go as a family soon. We didn't even know about it until a month or so ago. I can't wait to go now, especially after looking at your blog.
ReplyDeleteWe're going to Twin Falls in a couple weeks and plan on stopping at the Baker City Museum.. didn't you just go there? What's the name? I want to google it.
Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI know Stacie and Steve wanted to take the kids, maybe you could all go together.
The Oregon Trail Interpretive Center in Baker City is amazing. You guys would love it! There is also a wonderful museum downtown. I think it is the called the Baker County Museum. It has a really cool rock/mineral/fossil collection that is incredible. But if you only have time for one museum, I'd pick the Oregon Trail Interp. Museum.
Fun! We need to do that someday. We still haven't been to Timberline. Friday, I'm going to take the kids on a field trip to Dufur Pioneer cemetary if it isn't storming.
