Another Homemade Ketchup Recipe

I got this recipe off of the Aspiring Homemaker's Blog. It looks similar to mine, but doesn't require whey.

Homemade Ketchup

4 (6 oz) cans of tomato paste
2 cups water
3/4 cup vinegar
7 Tbsp sucanat
3 garlic cloves
4 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp onion powder
~
Warm the paste in a large saucepan, then you add the water a little at a time. Dump in the rest of the ingredients, and you've made BETTER-than-store bought Ketchup!!

  1. Do you know if you have to refrigerate this? Im looking for an easy canned homemade ketchup recipe- so I dont have to take up valuable fridge space!

  2. I understand what you're saying. I have a very small fridge as well. I would keep it in the fridge because it could grow mold very quickly since there aren't any preservatives in it. However, what I do is freeze it in smaller increments so that I'm not taking up much fridge space. Hope that helps!

  3. heh - I have more fridge space than I do freezer space! (between whole cows, whole pigs, lots of chickens and freezer meals all FOUR of the freezers are full... and there's just something satisfying about being able to make a years worth at a time... but maybe I can try it anyhow! thanks

  4. How long does this recipe keep in the fridge?

  5. I've had mine in the fridge for several months before it started growing, Kate. It lasts a long time because of the vinegar in it.
