Corned Beef and Cabbage Recipe

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I got this amazing recipe from a former pastor of ours. I never liked corned beef until I had it cooked this way.

Orpha's Corned Beef and Cabbage Recipe:
Boil corned beef in roasting pan (fat side up) for 3 or 4 hours in oven at 375 degrees, making sure it is submerged or floating in water. Then add potatoes wedges and carrots to roasting pan. Cook for another 30 minutes (can add spice pack if desired). Then add 1/2 cabbage, sliced into wedges, cook another 30 minutes. Remove corned beef and slice. Keeping it all together (fat side up), place into smaller pan and cook 10 minutes in oven next to the other pan full of veggies. Remove from oven and serve.

I love your background. We were eyeballing it today, too.

I didn't even know Orpha was a cook. This looks good. I didn't even know how to cook a corned beef without a crockpot. I'll have to try this one out with the corned beef I stuck in the freezer. For some reason I bought two.

Cookie,
We celebrated a very low-key St. Patty's Day at home. I taught Josiah the story of St. Patrick, we did corned beef and cabbage for dinner then we watched Disney's "Darby O'Gill and the Little People", to learn about some fun Irish legends. Sounds like you guys had a great time with your Irish friends. How fun!

Rachel,
I think you could cook this recipe in the crockpot, then pull it out, slice it, stick in the oven for 10 minutes to "crisp up" the outside and it would probably taste almost the same. Although, I'm not sure if you'd be able to slice it coming out of the crockpot since it might be too tender. If you try it, let me know how it turns out.

Hey Jackie,

I just read in the April issue of Real Simple magazine that washing soda and baking soda are pretty much the same. It did say that washing soda cannot be ingested though.
