Remodel Demolition: View from Outside

With the kids gone last week, we got so much done on our remodel. It was dangerous work and I'm so grateful to the grandparents (Michael's parents and my mom and step-dad) for taking the kids for the entire week so we could get all the demolition work done on the house. Michael and I came away with a few bruises and slivers, but other than that, we did pretty well. We spent Saturday morning rearranging all of our furniture to the other rooms of the house for the next month or two as we work on that side of the house. Here is the view of our front porch after we demolished the exterior walls. The new wood floor is where our addition is going. Both these walls are gone now, including the door (I'll post more on the interior demolition later). Here is a picture of the new framing. As you can see, we now have a much smaller enclosed porch. The rest of the porch is now the office/homeschool room, which is part of the open "L" shaped living area. We're getting 3 new windows and two doors. We decided on a fiberglass door going into the house and a glass storm going into the porch.
Here is a picture of the interior of the addition just after we busted out the inside walls. This open window came in handy as we tossed all the debris out of it.

We finally have some heat again. We were without heat for 2 days and electricity part of the time as Michael worked on the wiring. At first Josiah was upset when he came home to see his house all torn apart, without an heat, but we just encouraged him to see it all as an adventure.  I know it looks like a lot of work and expense for just a little bit of room, but this 75 sq feet really makes a difference in the living area. It is exciting to have everything so open with lots of light coming in.

I'm sorry I've been a bad blogger, just so busy working on all this. I'll try to catch up with all your blogs when I can.

Blessings,
Jackie

You will so enjoy all the extra space! You are not a bad blogger - who says one has to write every day, every week, or every month?

Your family and home should come first - and it is, so good for you!

It looks like it is coming along very quickly. I think any amount of extra square footage is so beneficial. I can not wait to see it all finished.

My dear, you are not a bag blogger.. we've all been busy with 'spring cleaning' per se. But look at what you've accomplished so far!! Busy bees there and I bet the children just have no desire for schooling right now at all.

What fun and yet there's more to come!!

with so much love,

Olivia

Oy! You'll be glad when it's all done. Remodeling is always a great task. But it looks like it's coming right along.

Jackie,

How exciting! I cannot wait to see the final product. You guys have done a great job and you have the satisfaction of knowing that you are doing it yourselves. And I can't wait to find out your garden adventures too. We have a small square foot garden that we are trying too!

Blessings,
Jackie

I blog only when I feel like it. I don't usually blog on weekends. I try to keep the Sabbath. No computer, TV, etc. We spend all Sunday together. I even try to crockpot a meal so I am not spending time in the kitchen.

No power or water sounds like a great homeschool lesson in pioneer days!!!

Have a wonderful day.

No need to apologize, I've been a "bad blogger" too! Which is really a good thing! Remodelling makes such a mess, it makes me think of how Jesus has 'remodeled' me. I was once a mess, then Jesus got a firm hold (like your solid foundation) of me and "remolded" me from the ground up- into the building firm walls, with a few windows and doors, then He put the finishing touches on my exterior, until I was a new room, for Him to work in! Now, He does "touch up work" to keep His new room in good shape....

It's coming along so wonderfully. Let me tell ya, when we ended up adding a bedroom for my eldest, our back entrance doubled in size..which BLEW me away. I couldn't figure out how it did that..but it looks so much better....I can't wait to see the finished product. 75 sq. ft. IS a lot...I know two ft, made a huge difference in our back entrance, so I can only image 75 ft..lol

As for being a "bad blogger" that's simply not true at all! The focus always ought to be home and family first ~ blogging is a hobby! :)

Have a lovely evening!
Love,
Camille
